  OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

Paul’s Place is located in the heart of Washington Village/Pigtown, a once thriving industrial center, just west of downtown Baltimore. The community is now battling three generations of poverty and its associated issues – hunger, drug addiction, violence, crime, poor education, inadequate job skills, and limited opportunities.

Washington Village has the seventh largest concentration of urban poverty in the United States. One-third of community residents have incomes below $15,000. Nearly 50% of neighborhood children under 6 and 80% of senior citizens live in poverty. Almost half of adults are not in the workforce. Five in ten young people drop out of middle or high school*.

Citizen's Planning and Housing Association's Resource Center for Neighborhoods

Citizen’s Planning and Housing Association envisions a well-planned Baltimore region with equity among jurisdictions, where citizens respect diversity and have access to responsive government and quality housing in vibrant neighborhoods.

CPHA's Resource Center for Neighborhoods provides the information for community leaders and community members who want to know who to talk to, how to get something done, and who may have done it before. The Resources available include tip sheets that provide tips on youth and education, law-making and enforcing, effective outreach, organizing, crime and safety, and housing and sanitation.
