Nurses' Clinic

Nurses from the University of Maryland School of Nursing and People’s Community Health Center at Open Gates offer basic health screenings and health counseling for uninsured and homeless community members. The Baltimore City Health Department also offers free HIV and STD testing on-site. The Nurses’ Clinic is open one day per week during Hot Lunch, and anyone needing follow-up or specialized treatment is referred to People’s Community Health Center at Open Gates or another health care provider. In FY07, renovations to the Nurses’ Clinic created more spaces for private health conversations. The nurses visited with over 800 guests in FY09.

Paul’s Place also offers physical education for children and youth in our after-school programs, including specific instruction in hip hop dance, aikido, and gymnastics. Women's Club of Pigtown

The Women’s Club of Pigtown (formerly the Women’s Support Group) meets weekly with a trained social worker to share their personal successes and, together, work through difficult problems in their lives to find positive, attainable solutions. The Women go on at least one outing each month, make the centerpieces for Paul’s Place’s dining room, and do other arts projects while supporting each other in successes and through challenges. In FY07, with the completion of a new conference room, the Women’s Club has a private meeting space; more women attend regularly now, and their conversations are more open and personal in this safe space. Throughout the year, 25 women participate in the Women’s Club of Pigtown.
